M.J. Fry History
MJ Fry Agricultural Engineers is a family run business, established over 35 years ago. We offer new & used tractors & machinery, farm building services and much more!
When in 1973 Mike Fry started as a ‘work experience’ trainee mechanic during the summer holidays with Ford Dorset Tractors in Dorchester, he did not yet know that the first steps towards MJ Fry Agricultural Engineers had begun. By 1975 he had enrolled on a 4-year apprenticeship with the company, repairing and looking after Ford and County tractors, New Holland, Claas equipment, plus others.
By 1977, Mike had worked his way up to a Master Mechanic and it was then that he purchased his first excavator. At weekends, he would repair farm machinery and carry out excavation jobs.
In 1987, Mike decided to go on his own and purchased a van so to carry out repairs on farms and worked on all different types/makes of tractors and machinery. He also began constructing barns and other farm buildings. MJ Fry Agricultural Engineers was born.
In 1996, as MJ Fry Agricultural Engineers was becoming more and more established, Mike and his wife purchased premises at Martinstown where they are to this day.
In 2003, they took on their first dealership for Dorset and the surrounding area with Zetor tractors – this was primarily to sell and repair Zetor tractors. As the firm took off and gradually expanded, they inevitably needed to look for higher horsepower tractors and in 2014 were approached by Deutz-Fahr Tractors to take on the franchise. MJ Fry Agricultural Engineers, now a well-established firm, agreed. Shortly after, a new depot at Higher Woodsford was opened with a large workshop and a busy County Stores.
Today, MJ Fry Agricultural Engineers employ a team workforce of 20 staff and are proud to continue to serve the farming community of Dorset and beyond.
